What is Leon MCP?
Leon MCP Server lets you connect the AI assistant you already use, such as Claude or ChatGPT, to your Leon account. Once connected, you can ask questions about your flights, crew or fleet in plain language, and the assistant fetches the answer from Leon in real time.
MCP stands for Model Context Protocol, an open standard that AI tools use to talk to other systems. Leon exposes its data as a set of "tools" (for example: search flights, check crew duties, read open MELs). Your AI assistant decides which tools to call to answer your question.
Three things to know up front:
-
It is included in your Leon licence. There is no extra fee and no separate module. You only pay for the AI tool you choose (for example a Claude or ChatGPT subscription).
-
You see only what you can see in Leon. Every user signs in with their own Leon account, and the assistant works within that user's privileges.
-
It is not Wingman. Wingman is the AI chat built into Leon. Leon MCP connects your own AI tool to Leon; Leon does not run or pay for the AI model.
How it works, in short:
-
You ask your AI assistant a question, for example "Which flights tomorrow depart from EPWA?".
-
The assistant calls the matching Leon MCP tool, using your own Leon login.
-
Leon checks your permissions and returns the data.
-
The assistant answers using that data.
What you can do with it
The assistant can both read and change data in Leon, so you can use it for lookups, summaries and routine updates. Some example prompts:
|
Area |
Example prompt |
|---|---|
|
Operations |
"List all flights for SP-ABC next week and flag any without crew assigned." |
|
Operations |
"What changed in tomorrow's schedule since this morning?" |
|
Crew |
"Show the FTL sheet for John Smith for the last 28 days." |
|
Fleet & maintenance |
"Which aircraft have open MEL or HIL items?" |
|
Airports & weather |
"Is LFMN open at our planned arrival time, and what is the forecast?" |
|
Sales |
"Find our last flight to EGLF and summarise the open quotes for this week." |
|
Checklists |
"Mark the catering checklist item as done on flight 1234." |
|
Reports |
"Build a report of last month's flights by aircraft and export it to Excel." |
AI assistants can be combined with other connectors you use (email, calendar, spreadsheets), for example to prepare a daily operations brief or answer a client email with live flight data.
Tip: Be specific about dates, registrations and airports. Large open-ended questions (for example "all flights this year") may hit query limits; see Troubleshooting.
How to get connected
Setting up a connection takes a few minutes. Leon Support provides the credentials and step-by-step instructions for the AI tool you choose.
-
Request access. A Leon system administrator contacts Leon Support and names the AI tool your company wants to use.
-
Receive your credentials. Support registers a private connection for your company and sends a Client ID and a Client Secret (through a secure one-time link), together with setup instructions for your tool.
-
Add Leon as a connector in your AI tool. Enter your Leon MCP server address and the credentials. Depending on the tool, this is done once by its administrator or by each user.
-
Sign in with your Leon account. Each user logs in on the Leon page and approves access. From then on, the assistant can use Leon tools within that user's permissions.
-
Start asking. Try one of the example prompts above.
Your MCP server address is https://<operator>.mcpserver.leon.aero/mcp, where <operator> is the subdomain of your Leon address (if you log in at demo.leon.aero, it is demo).
Which AI tools work? Claude (web, desktop app and Claude Code), ChatGPT, and other AI tools that support remote MCP servers with OAuth sign-in.
Connecting with an API key (for technical users). Some tools cannot run an OAuth sign-in and only accept a fixed Authorization: Bearer header. Leon MCP also accepts access tokens created from an operator API key (see Api Keys). These tokens expire after 30 minutes and cannot be extended, so such tools need a small proxy on your side that refreshes the token. An API key works with the scopes chosen when it was created, not with a specific user's permissions. Where possible, use OAuth instead.
Good to know:
-
New connections usually become active as soon as the next full hour after Support registers them.
-
Leon MCP works on your production Leon account only; there is no separate sandbox. To try it safely, connect with a read-only test user.
-
Each person signs in with their own Leon login. Shared service accounts cannot be used.
Available tools
Leon MCP offers more than 110 tools, and the list keeps growing. Most only read data; some can create or change data, such as editing flights or updating checklist items. Missing a tool you need? Let us know if you want to request another tool. The full list with parameters is in the Leon MCP Tools Reference.

Limits to keep in mind:
-
Date ranges: searching flights over long periods can exceed the query size limit. Keep a single search to about two months or less, and ask for fewer details (for example without crew) for longer ranges.
-
Tool list per user: every user sees the same tool list, but a tool call fails if the user lacks the matching privilege in Leon.
-
Your AI tool decides which tools to call. Clear prompts with dates, registrations and airport codes give the best results.
Security and access rights
The AI assistant can never see or do more in Leon than the person who connected it. Access is controlled by Leon permissions, not by the AI tool.
-
Personal sign-in. Each user authorises the connection with their own Leon login (password or SAML SSO). Leon never shares passwords with the AI tool; the tool receives a token that it renews automatically.
-
Same permissions as in Leon. Tool calls run with the user's privilege group, aircraft restrictions and operator boundaries. Change a user's privileges in Leon and the assistant follows automatically.
-
Private connection per operator. Support registers a non-public OAuth client for your company only, and each operator has its own MCP server address.
-
Credentials are issued by Leon. Your AI tool cannot register itself; it needs the Client ID and Secret from Leon Support.
-
Leon does not run the AI. The MCP server only returns data. The data the assistant receives is processed by the AI provider you chose, under your agreement with that provider. Reflect this in your own data protection documentation.
How to limit what the assistant can do:
|
Goal |
How |
|---|---|
|
Read-only access |
Connect with a Leon user whose privilege group has view-only rights. |
|
Block specific actions |
Disable individual tools (for example all write tools) in your AI tool's connector settings. |
|
Review connected integrations |
In Leon, open Settings → Add-ons to see active OAuth integrations and their access. |
|
Revoke access |
Ask Leon Support to deactivate the OAuth client, or remove the connector in your AI tool. |
Most AI tools ask you to confirm before running a tool that changes data. Always read the confirmation before approving.
SSO note: the Leon authorisation page supports password and SAML SSO login. If your company uses Microsoft SSO and password login is disabled, contact Support before connecting.
Troubleshooting
Most connection problems come from a typo in the URL or credentials, or from trying to connect before the next full hour. Check these first.
|
Symptom or error |
Likely cause |
What to do |

FAQ
Does Leon MCP cost extra?
No. It is part of the standard Leon licence. You only need a subscription to the AI tool you choose.
Is Leon MCP the same as Wingman?
No. Wingman is the AI assistant built into Leon. Leon MCP lets you use your own AI tool, such as Claude or ChatGPT, with your Leon data.
Can Support just send us a username and password for the AI tool?
No. Each user signs in with their own Leon account, so the assistant always works with that person's permissions.
Can we make it read-only?
Yes. Connect with a user in a view-only privilege group, or disable write tools in your AI tool's connector settings.
Is there a test environment?
No. Leon MCP works on your production account. Use a read-only test user to try it safely.
Can we use it for scheduled, unattended automation?
Leon MCP is designed for interactive AI assistants. For background integrations between systems, use the Leon GraphQL API with an API key.
Can we use another AI tool or a locally hosted model?
Yes, if the tool supports remote MCP servers. Tell Leon Support which tool you use when you request access. Technical details for integrators are in the Leon MCP documentation.
Who can request access?
A Leon system administrator of your company. Contact Leon Support.
