Scope - FTL Duty

Overview

The FTL Duty scope covers duty periods and Flight Time Limitation (FTL) records for crew members. Each record represents a single duty — a continuous period during which a crew member is subject to regulatory working time rules, from the moment they report for duty until they are released. The scope captures actual and planned duty start and end times, Flight Duty Period (FDP) data, rest periods, and FTL compliance results.

This scope is essential for regulatory compliance and fatigue risk management. Operators use it to verify that crew working hours remain within the legal limits set by aviation authorities, to detect violations, monitor discretion usage, and produce auditable duty and rest records.

What reports can you build with this scope?

Examples of typical reports operators build with this scope:

  • Monthly crew duty hours summary by crew member or AOC

  • FTL violation report — list of duties where limits were exceeded

  • Discretion usage report — duties where FDP extension was applied

  • Rest period compliance report — actual vs. required rest before and after each duty

  • Early/late/night duty frequency report for fatigue risk analysis

Cumulative Block time and Duty time columns

Report Wizard also offers cumulative Block time and Duty time columns for rolling and calendar periods, following the pattern Block time [Nx] and Duty time [Nx], where N is the length of the period and x is a unit code.

The case of the unit letter matters, it is not cosmetic:

Lowercase, for example 28d, 7d, 1w, 1m, 1y, means a rolling window, any N consecutive days or other units counted backwards from the current duty. This corresponds to the classic EASA style "any 28 consecutive days".

Uppercase, for example 28D, 1W, 1M, 1Y, means a calendar period, tied to fixed calendar boundaries rather than a rolling window relative to the duty.

Both variants exist as predefined columns for every supported length and unit combination. For a given operator, only the columns that correspond to a limit actually configured in that operator's FTL preset are shown, the rest stay hidden rather than removed. This is why in practice you usually see only one of the two, for example only Block time [28d] or only Block time [28D], depending on how the operator's FTL scheme defines that particular limit.
