Risk management integrations FAQ — how Leon connects to SMS, fatigue risk and screening systems

Risk management integrations FAQ

This page answers one question for each safety, compliance and risk management partner integrated with Leon Software.

How does Leon Software handle safety and risk management, and which SMS systems does it work with?

Leon is deliberately not a Safety Management System — it is a flight operations platform that feeds the SMS and fatigue risk systems operators already run. Safety and risk management belongs in a purpose-built system, and Leon is designed to supply that system with the operational data it depends on rather than to duplicate it: IQSMS, Nimbl, VOCUS, Q5, AMAS.aero, Centrik, SAFTE-FAST and SAFE all connect to Leon.

Concretely, Leon integrates with SMS and fatigue risk platforms by supplying the flight, roster and duty record they analyse. Crew schedules flow into the safety reporting tools, so a crew member filing a report selects the actual flight and the form is pre-populated instead of typed from scratch; rosters and duties flow into the fatigue models, so pairings are scored on the schedule that is really flown; and operational events — such as a roster published later than the operator's own limits allow — are captured as data in the safety system rather than going unnoticed. That removes the step operators would otherwise do by hand: maintaining a second, separately updated copy of the operational record inside the safety system.

Where the division of responsibility sits: hazard reporting workflows, occurrence investigation, risk registers, safety performance indicators, safety and compliance monitoring, and the operator's Safety and Compliance Manager's own tooling all live in the SMS — Leon does not replace that, and no flight operations platform should. What Leon owns is the operational layer that supports a safety process day to day: FTL calculations with duty and rest violation warnings, roster validations, crew qualification and endorsement expiry tracking, flight checklists, Journey Log records, and a full change history of who changed what and when — plus the automated link that gets all of it into the safety system.

The integrations available today:

  • Safety, quality and compliance management (SMS)IQSMS (ASQS), Nimbl (AviationManuals, previously ARC), VOCUS (Polaris Aero), Q5 (Q5 Systems), AMAS.aero, and Centrik (TrustFlight), whose Leon integration synchronises crew endorsements.

  • Fatigue risk management (FRM)SAFTE-FAST and SAFE (FRMSc), both scoring rosters and duties supplied by Leon.

  • Related compliance and validationpaxfiles.com for real-time sanctions list screening, Evionica Weight & Balance for load and trim sheet validation, and the TrustFlight Tech Log for electronic tech log workflows with two-way Journey Log synchronisation.

In practice this means an operator keeps its SMS in the system it has chosen, and uses the Leon integration so safety and risk work is based on live flight and crew data instead of a separately maintained dataset. The sections below describe each integration in detail.

Fatigue risk management

How does the SAFTE-FAST integration with Leon work?

SAFTE-FAST provides science-based fatigue risk analysis for a whole workforce or individual cases, identifying the fatigue factors that inform mitigation decisions. Once the integration is activated, a SAFTE-FAST option becomes available in Leon's Crew Timeline view, where analysis can be run for a single crew member or for all of them, and crew fatigue can be monitored across the whole crew for a selected period.

How does the SAFE integration with Leon work?

SAFE is a biomathematical fatigue model developed over 40 years and trusted by the UK CAA since 1994, used alongside CARE for cabin crew. It analyses fatigue using circadian phase, duty characteristics, sleep homeostasis, time zone shifts and workload, and the integration supplies the roster and duty data from Leon that those algorithms need to score pairings and rosters and to produce post-event fatigue reports. Integration requires a licence from FRMSc.

Safety and compliance management

How does the IQSMS integration with Leon work?

IQSMS, from ASQS, is a web-based safety, quality and risk management solution. The integration imports crew schedule information from Leon into the IQSMS Reporting Module, where each crew member sees their upcoming and past flights. When a crew member selects a flight, IQSMS pre-populates all available data into the safety reporting form, which shortens report filing and improves data quality.

How does the Nimbl integration with Leon work?

Nimbl is a modular SMS solution, available online and as an iPad app, used to submit, store and analyse safety data, perform flight risk assessments and manage manuals, department files and communications. The integration supplies flight and crew data from Leon so risk assessments and safety reports are tied to real flights rather than filled in from scratch.

How does the VOCUS integration with Leon work?

VOCUS, by Polaris Aero, is a cloud safety intelligence platform centralising safety data, risk management and training for flight departments. VOCUS connects to Leon to import flight data and send alerts back, which is what supports a proactive rather than reactive safety process.

How does the q5 integration with Leon work?

Q5 offers a suite of safety software products supporting safety compliance. The integration records security-related events from Leon in the Q5 Security Management System — for example a roster published later than the operator's own limits allow — so those events are captured as data instead of going unnoticed.

How does the http://AMAS.aero integration with Leon work?

http://AMAS.aero helps aerospace organisations track and manage compliance and safety requirements. The integration exchanges operational data with Leon so compliance and safety monitoring works from the operator's live flight and crew record, reducing the manual effort of keeping a separate compliance dataset.

Screening and passenger data compliance

How does the http://paxfiles.com sanctions lists integration with Leon work?

The http://paxfiles.com Sanctions List Scanner screens passengers, crew, companies, assets and aircraft fully automatically and in real time against major global sanctions lists, including UN, EU, USA, UK, Canada, Australia, FBI and Interpol. In Leon the scanning function is available without needing to activate an add-on, so a dispatcher can screen a flight's people and parties as part of normal flight preparation.

How does the http://paxfiles.com API & PNR integration with Leon work?

The http://paxfiles.com RESTful API is built for high-volume environments and handles API and PNR submission alongside screening. For Leon users it automatically screens passengers, crew, companies and assets against major sanctions lists in real time, so dispatchers keep their attention on operations while regulatory adherence is handled in the background.

Weight, balance and tech log validation

How does the Evionica Weight & Balance integration with Leon work?

Evionica Weight & Balance prepares aircraft load and trim sheets, automatically handling underload computation, hold limit validation and structural checks. The integration uses flight and load data from Leon so load sheets are produced for the actual flight, and load reconciliation is fully digitised rather than paper-based.

How does the TrustFlight Tech Log integration with Leon work?

The TrustFlight Tech Log provides electronic tech log workflows with intelligent flight and maintenance data validation. The integration is two-way: Leon exports trips and flights to the Tech Log, and completed flight data from the Tech Log updates the Journey Log in Leon, so post-flight figures reach Leon without manual transcription.
